What equipment will my wrestler need for tournaments?
Wrestlers will need wrestling shoes and a singlet for tournaments. Singlets can be rented from the club for a deposit of $50.00 (check only). The deposit will be returned to you at the conclusion of the season if returned and not damaged in any way. The club will keep your deposit if the singlet is not returned or has any damage/wear and tear. Singlets can also be purchased from the FYWC Store.
Please note: Head gear is required at all USA tournaments.
Can I attend the practices?
We encourage parents to sit in on the first few practices of the season to gain an understanding of how our coaches teach and what technique(s) are being taught. However, we do ask that after that, parents do not attend. This is to ensure your wrestler is not distracted, remains focused and listens to their coaches instruction.
When should we sign up for our first tournament?
Our club strongly encourages waiting until a wrestler's second year in the sport before signing them up for their first tournament. Wrestling is a very tough sport - it requires confidence and mental toughness. Signing a wrestler up too soon can discourage them and their willingness to attend future events if they experience a loss. That said, parents/guardians can sign their wrestler up for their first tournament when they feel they are ready. Please ensure that our club will have coaches attending prior to registering.
